About Me

There are many branches of psychotherapy, yet studies have shown that no one approach is more successful than any other. Fundamental to them all, however, is the development of a particular kind of therapeutic relationship. The quality of the relationship is the main factor in change and healing for clients, and is central to the integrative approach. For this reason, I am keen for you to find out about me and how I work before choosing to work with me.

My journey to becoming a counsellor/psychotherapist began in earnest when I was living in the USA and supporting myself by doing some office duties for a team of psychotherapists. They were supporting police officers who had been affected by traumatic experiences in their working lives. Many of them had many years experience and were suddenly finding they were unable to cope.  I was fascinated by the work which rekindled my curiosity about how our life experiences, both very early on and later in life, affect our emotional well being and sense of security in the world, and I knew this was a career path I had to pursue. That was nearly 20 years ago!

On returning to the UK I obtained a BSc Psych (Hons). Then went on to train in integrative counselling, and started working as a therapist in 2005. Through ongoing training and professional development I have gained a deep understanding of the brain, emotion, body link and use this knowledge in all areas of my work with clients and supervisees.

I started my private practice in 2006 and work with clients who bring a wide range of issues and difficulties in their lives. I have worked in a number of services who support people who have experienced trauma and abuse, including the role of senior psychotherapist for a women’s therapy service in Sheffield, working with survivors of trauma and abuse.
